ein Bild machen [ain bilt 'maxən]
trans. from German: to make a picture

sich ein Bild machen von [ziç ain bilt 'maxən fɔn]
trans. from German: imagine; visualize; conceive of
In English we talk of taking a picture. The German phrase, though, is I think more accurate -- making a picture. It's not a passive thing, simply capturing a moment; it's an active process -- imagining, visualizing, and creating something new and (hopefully) interesting. It's in this spirit that I approach my work as a photographer.
